The Perfect 10

A while back I put up a mix called "The Perfect 10." It consisted of ten tracks I truly liked at the time. I occasionally, still get an email asking for that tracklisting. I figured another one was overdue.

I give you The Perfect 10: From P.M. to A.M.

Again ten tracks, at about an hour long. The title will make sense once you give it a thorough listen.

For tracklisting, shoot me an email. It's the only way to keep things interesting around here.

Anthems

Back from MK tour. WMC is finally over. What's next?

I like to point out "Venganza" is out now on iTunes for the low price of 99 cents. It will have remixes out soon by some great artists that I dearly respect. Some of you may have heard them in my dj sets.
A follow up single will....follow up?

You can buy it here.

Music:

Miles Dyson kills it with this one. Just listen to the speech and watch it all come together after the massive buildup.

Out on plasmaUS.

The horn samples make me feel like I'm laying out on the sand in a nice Cuban beach. Can't wait to try this out in Mexico soon.

The Perfect Wedding
-Lazaro

A young couple standing at the altar listen to the preacher recite the wedding vows. Speak now or forever hold their pea—This is a horrible idea, said the priest. The bride is in disbelief…that is, after the groom agreed with the priest. Daddy runs over until he is clothes-lined by the groom. I always hated you, said the groom, you taste like old…every time I kiss your daughter I taste your oldness. The priest reaches over and lays a thick kiss on the bride. He agrees and high-fives the groom. The mother of the bride screams, followed by a head-to-wall banging. Oh great, now I have to get someone to paint over that, said the priest. The old lady sitting at the organ plays a baseball tune. The ring boy picks up a candlestick and starts swinging away. That's my boy over there, said a dad to a woman.

Music:

Sander Van Doorn gives London's pop-songstress Sia a major (or minimal) remix treatment. When the vocal break kicks in ala Blondie, suddenly a name like "The girl you lost to cocaine" is all too suiting.

Out on Doorn records.

A few weeks ago I was scouting for new tracks on a record site and I saw a white label for Daft Punk's, One more time. I know you're thinking "not another Daft Punk remix!" but I'm here to say this is probably the best Daft Punk remix I've heard since Para One's take on Prime time of your life. Anyway, these guys are known as The House Moguls . I hit them up on myspace and they were kind of enough to send me this remix. It has been killing dance floors everywhere I have dropped it. It has also gathered attention from fellow colleagues Mstrkrft and LA Riots. Wait no more, I have been given permission to let this beast out into the wild. Enjoy and remember where you heard it first.

As if not enough aussie's were holding it down already, Dirty South is at it again. This remix of Kaskade is a obvious sign that the underground and the mainstream are mingling. Kaskade played three shows in one night recently. New year's eve he played LA, Vegas, and San Fran,

Out on Ultra Records. Among many others.

Fox

She may have shitty tattoos but she's a fox....literally.

Tonight is the first night in a while where I have gone cold turkey...no crown whatsoever in me. I'm enjoying a couple of nights home before I'm off to "work" again.

Before I get into future happenings, I'd like to point out that the show in Atlanta @ Echo Park was amazing. Unfortunately, we got cut by the sound guy at exactly 2am, even though the tent was still packed with "green" (see hippie) kids yelling "one more" for a good 15 minutes straight. Needless to say, they never did get one more.

The CMJ show at Studio B w/ Mstrkrft/Z-trip was probably even crazier. And that is when I noticed that I am somewhat living the life of a rapper. I don't want to state exactly how many bottles of crown are gone through each night because it's really an absurd number.

I know I listed a couple of dates on the last post and I'm actually correcting a few things. But for the latest in shows, just go to the myspace page.

Oct 28. Vegas @ Revolution w/ Mstrkrft & LA Riots
Nov 15. Toronto @ Tattoo
Nov 21. San Diego @ 4th and B w/ Mstrkrft
Nov 22. Mexico City @ Pasageuro
Nov 23. Juarez @ Moroccos w/ Mstrkrft
Nov 24. Mexicali @ Fex Centro De Eespectaculos w/ Mstrkrft
Dec 7. Buenos Aires @ Personal Fest

More to come. Again check the myspace page for latest as I think I'll stop announcing shows on here.

So there was this video of me in Tijuana....

I've gotten quite numerous responses about what song I'm playing while the dangerous pyrotechnics was happening. The track is called Coup d'etat. It is the Hook n Sling remix. Original artist is Syndey's own, Bass Kleph.

As an act of kindness (and possibly just tired of answering the same question), I've decided to post this one.

Out on Vacation Records.

Bass Kleph - Coupe d'etat (Hook n Sling Remix)

Tomas Andersson's, Washing Up was about on every dj's playlist last year...specifically Tiga's take on it. Well for '07 Skint records has re-released it, this time including a Tim Deluxe remix. The remix mostly adds some major percussion and some nice marching snare buildups.

Out on Skint Records.

Oct 13. Atlanta @ Echo Project Festival
Oct 18. New York @ CMJ AM Only Showcase @ Hiro Ballroom

More dates as they confirm including a special party New Years Eve.

Shena is a UK born session singer. Most notably her voice has that Soul-House-Diva sound that some of us love so dearly. Some of you may remember a few posts back I mentioned some Aussies by the name of Aston Shuffle. If you went ahead and downloaded their Rocket Men remix, that was posted here earlier, you'd be pleased to find it's a similar electro treat. Well, they've done another fine job and have remixed Shena's, Eletrosexual. Now I'll be honest, Aston Shuffle has done away with a lot of the vocals but it's still a good track. If you want to hear Shena in all her natural glory, I'd recommend to check out some of her original stuff.

Out on Hussle Black. Sublabel of Hussle recordings which is a sublabel of Ministry of Sound (Australia).

Most of you are probably familiar with Dj Mehdi's, Signatune. If you aren't....here's a video.

Well, here's where it came from. (Mostly) everyone samples.

The Perfect 10: Mixtape

So why is it called the perfect 10? Is it because Jessica Biel is a perfect 10? Possibly, but that's irrelevant right now. I haven't publicly released a mixtape since...well I can't remember. I felt like the older mixtapes were a bit more trendy with what was happening in music at the moment. This (on the other hand) is house music.

The length of the mixtape is 10 tracks (so thats how the name came about!). Clocking in at about an hour.

Tracklistings? Who needs those either way. But if you surely must know, shoot me an email.

She's Dope

Sometimes I like to update just because I found a picture that needs to be put asap, in this case Petra Nemcova. I had a tough time just choosing one, that's how dope she is. Lucky for you this is still a music blog and despite the picture being the main motivation for this post, the tracks won't fall short.

I'm doing a small Mexico tour this week.

8/16- Mexico City @ Caribe
8/17- Monterrey @ Loft Nrmal
8/18- Juarez @ Hardpop

Always a good time in Mexico!

Music:

Chris Lake recently did a Essential Mix for BBC1 Radio. A solid 120 minutes. It was mostly electro house with a good balance of vocals and a slight touch of progressive house. I listened through the set and there were a few standout tracks, one of them being a remix done by none other than Lake himself. The other being on his label.

Mark Ronson invites Lilly Allen to make some audio magic happen. However, Chris Lake, takes it a step further giving the track his glitchy electro house touch.

Out on Sony BMG.

Mark Ronson Feat. Lilly Allen - Oh My God (Chris Lake Remix)

Two fellow Toronto-ians Deadmau5 and Jelo deliver on this peak-time electro house bomb. Massive build ups....MASSIVE.

Time of the month

So it's that time of the month again, my last post was july 9 and now we're on august 9. Keeping my promise of a monthly update (sometimes more) I'm making the grand effort to update on the last possible day before breaking this promise. Whether you're here for the "n00dz" (in this case Jessica Biel...mhmm) or the tunes, you'd be delighted with this post (i hope).

A lot has happened in the last month, too much for me to update with. But I'll run through the highlights very quickly.

Austin is an amazing city, my first time going when it's not SXSW. It was the last party for one of the most forward thinking clothing stores I've seen Factory People. Might I add two of the nicest people I've come across. Unfortunately their retail space is no longer but they now offer their services online. Please check them out at www.factorypeople.com.

LA is always good to me. Saw Daft Punk for the first time. The last 10 minutes is even more gnarly than the already-epic performance prior to then.

Huntington Beach was a great get away. Was there during the US Surf open. Would like to thank Akram, Dexter and the rest of the Discoteca crew for making it happen yet again. Go check them out at myspace/discotecaparty to find out when their next shindig is.

Got to see Common perform in Miami. Talib Kweli was on stage with him for most of the performance. Common can freestyle like no other. On the same night I was able to catch Green Velvet play elsewhere. What a night...

Tomorrow I'll be playing Houston @ Rich's w/ the one and only Dj Funk.

For a more update schedule of my upcoming shows check back to myspace. It is constantly being updated.

Music:

Serge Santiago drops this lovely tech-house bomb onto the ears of us all. R2D2 is part of the amazing 2 x CD We love...Ibiza compilation. Ironically this compilation isn't filled with your typical late night/early morning sunrise ibiza tracks....which is what makes this great!

Out on Ministry of Sound.

Serge Santiago - R2D2

I've grown accustomed to editing a lot of the tracks I play out. I've recently put this one up on myspace and a good amount of people agreed with the edit. The original is great classic track that got all sorts of play in its day. More notably it can be found on one of the Waves compilations the Crydamoure put out. It's a very simple edit that basically just removes the "Zeus" vocals. And allows about a minute of mixing at start and outro.

Southside

I've had quite a busy run these last few weeks. To summarize, the party in Orange County was amazing, what a great crowd. As always the west coast is nice to me and I don't mind going back any chance I get, which is why I fly back in July 16 to hang and play a few shows. Toronto a few nights ago gave me the chance to hang with la familia. I'll be back there for Labour of Love party Sept 2.This is what the near future looks like as of now. There are other dates but we'll wait for those to confirm before posting.

7.14.07 Cleveland - Anatomy
7.15.07 Austin- Factory People @ Beauty Bar
7.19.07 LA- Heist
8.17.07 Monterrey Mexico - Loft (Nrmal)
8.18.07 Juarez Mexico- HardPop
9.02.07 Toronto - Guvernment

On another note, I'm digging this Official Kanye Mixtape. The snippets of the new tracks sound promising. The track with with Common, Southside is fire. Rather than piss you off by posting the snippet of it, I'd let you go venture for it on your own. Throw Some D's remix is very sexist and hilarious. Why fuck with throwing D's on a car when you can throw them on a girl? Kanye even goes as far as making a video for the remix, which ofcourse doesn't get aired but can be found on youtube. I know Kanye has pulled some questionable moves but he seems to be redeeming himself a bit now.

And now back to scheduled programming aka dance music.

Music

The Freaks is Justin Harris and Luke Solomon and The Creeps is an anthem we've all heard on a dance floor or two or three (you get the idea). Aussies Vandalism give the track a reworking so that Dj's like you and I can play it. No disrespect to the original bomb ofcourse, we just like to have options sometimes.

Out on Azuli Records.

A lesson in French House

It is yet another rare occasion of me not starting a post with a picture of a good looking girl. This time a friend of mine sent me a video of Daft Punk live at Bercy last night. It is good to see that the performance has seen a few changes from the oh-so-memorable Coachella performance. I had heard the performance was going to be left untouched until everyone got to see it but it seems like they're making a few adjustments, one which can be seen in this video.

It seems these days when you refer to French music a lot of kids look at the new movement of electronic music coming out of France right now. The new music is not bad but a lot of purists would argue that it's nothing compared to the peak French House of the 90's. A time of low-pass filters. A time where a track can go on for 5 minutes on one single loop and not become repetitive because the groove is so damn good. With that said, if anyone speaks to Guyman, tell him to bring back Crydamoure!

Music:

For this post I have a bit of a treat for you. I know this is going to completely rape my bandwidth but I'll see how it goes for a few days. If it gets out of hand then I'll take the file down so grab while you can.

Most of us have seen Daft Punk play recently, which is more of a light show than actually live. There was once a time where they actually did play live. A friend of mine saw them play at Roseland in 1997. He recalls them standing between two stands of gear. Among other stuff, there was a 909, 808, 303, 606 and a Korg z1. The lineup that night was full of actual live sets. Some of the others who performed were, Aphex Twin, Crystal Method, Death In Vegas and Sneaker Pimps. It's a shame that the year was 1997 and I was about eleven years old.

There was a rare occasion were Daft Punk actually did a DJ set. This occasion was at Twilo on October 16, 1998. I came across this DJ set which didn't feature their music but instead a collection of tasty French house tunes. Apparently this was a two part Dj set, with the second part being a Cassius DJ set. So without further due, I present to you the Daft Punk DJ set at Twilo.

Daft Punk - DJ Live at Twilo 10.16.98 Part 1

320 kbps recorded straight from the soundboard.

I'm not including a flash player on this one due to the fact that it will further rape my bandwidth.

Candy

I admit I was a little bored and decided to play around a bit with the new compose feature of blogger, meaning the need for messing with html is almost completely eliminated. It also explains the borderline suspect slew of colors in the post title. Also, I've ran into a bit of a problem, the number of photos of good looking girls has exceeded any number my imagination can reach. At times, I have to go through this long excruciating  process of selecting between finalists. No need to worry, the runner ups usually make it to the next post.

Music:

Rocket Men's, Candy, gets a great rework by aussies, Aston Shuffle and what a reworking it is! Reminiscent of a SMD track due to the catchy female vocals except with heavy bass. Don't sleep on this one.

Out on Superstar Recordings.

Rocket Men - Candy (The Aston Shuffle Mix)

Sometimes when the planets align, I get a good submission. No but really...when the planets align I check the emails and hear this good submission. This one comes from The Sky Patrol, titled The Ultraviolet Catastrophe. File this unique track somewhere under electro/techno/minimal. As a matter of fact throw out your file cabinet and give this one a listen.

Out on Tide Pool Records.

The artist was nice enough to let me post this track but ofcourse you can always buy it here.
